About Dayna

Dayna is a ceramic artist working out of BC Canada. She focuses on making functional objects for the home. When she was introduced to pottery in high school it quickly became a way for her to experience joy and healing, and to remain grounded. She reengaged clay 6 years ago, taking community classes in Saskatchewan and Alberta before attending Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC in 2021.

Pottery continues to fascinate her as it requires experimentation, curiosity, humility, and a willingness to embrace failure as a teacher. Dayna finds pottery asks her to remain present within her body and to the present moment, a posture she hopes her finished pieces invite others to as they use them.

About the Work

Dayna is drawn by the world’s quiet, unconsidered, ordinary beauty. She is inspired by the ways negative space highlights and informs what we see.

Dayna makes simple and elegant pieces meant to be used and enjoyed every day. She contrasts gentle forms and colours with geometric shapes to create lively tension.

These pieces can fade into the background of our daily lives and yet, once considered, become subtle centrepieces in our homes. This work is designed to: evoke a sense of calm, warmth, and confidence, and to invite us to relax and reflect.

Dayna makes each piece by hand on a pottery wheel. She finishes all her work in an electric kiln which fires to cone 6 or approximately 1200 degrees Celsius. The fun of handmade work is, no matter how hard you try to make them the same, each piece is always unique.
